This APWA Lunch & Learn will feature Gordon Haight with Provo City presenting on the Buckley Draw Fire and resulting debris flow. The fire started August 17, 2025, and burned actively until August 23. By the second day, the City began preparing for a potential debris flow. On August 27 at approximately 9:50 PM, a major rain event dropped about 0.8 inches of rain in 30 minutes on the burn scar, creating a significant debris flow that damaged public and private property. This presentation will review Provo City’s response and the ongoing recovery and mitigation efforts following the event.
