Join us at our March Lunch & Learn where Jake Mitchell, Draper City’s Street Manager, will discuss best practices in snow removal operations. Draper City includes a large residential area at high altitude known as Suncrest. Because of this, Draper conducts snow plowing operations more frequently and to a higher degree than most cities in Salt Lake and Utah Counties. Jake will share the methodologies the City has employed to efficiently and safely de-ice and plow snow, including how Draper manages its own brine solution and sanding operation. Videos will demonstrate how this process works along with additional best practices. The discussion will also include preventative road maintenance before snow events, equipment maintenance, and operational strategies.
Sean Poling with WeatherNet will also present on the weather forecasting tools used by Draper City Public Works. He will discuss the daily forecast WeatherNet provides to staff each morning, including how forecasts are developed specifically to address roadway impacts. Draper’s forecast is divided into several regions so crews can anticipate where the greatest precipitation is expected and focus their work in the right areas at the right time. Sean will also highlight the value of Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) and the weather station WeatherNet installed in Suncrest.
We invite anyone interested to attend, especially those involved in snow removal operations, and encourage participants to share their own experiences and insights.
